YFM’s DJ Mic Smith on Saturday won the biggest prize and bragging rights amongst DJ’s in the capital as he picked the award for Best DJ – Greater Accra Region at the just ended Ghana DJ Awards.
For the past decade, Mic Smith, known in real life as Michael Owusu-Smith, has demonstrated a monstrous mastery of his craft. His flawless control of the turntables has endeared him to the hearts of many in Ghana and across the shores of the country.
DJ Mic Smith who doubles as the Official DJ for EL proved to be ‘The Shutdown King’ by rising high above other greats in the highly competitive category with DJ Black, DJ Vyrusky, DJ Switch, DJ Sly and DJ Mpesempese.
DJ Mic Smith who was short of words after the event managed to squeeze out a few sentences. “Chale, I sincerely don’t know what to say. It is great to be recognized for the work you do. I thank everyone who gave me the opportunity to work with them, those who took risks with me from my inexperienced days till now. This is a great accolade. It is not easy rising above other industry giants but I made it.”
He went on to dedicate the award to the entire YFM crew. “Thank you to my YFM team for their help and dedication. One for all, all for one.”
Programmes Manager for YFM, Eddy Blay who accompanied his team to the ceremony said, “Mic has been doing great work. I appreciate him for his dedication and commitment. He makes my work as a manager easy. He deserves this award.”
DJ Mic Smith is also the DJ, for the hottest drive time show in the capital Dryve on Y FM, hosted by Joel Orleans.
The show airs every Monday to Thursday from 3PM to 7PM.
The Ghana DJ awards is organized annually to celebrate DJ’s in Ghana for their immense contribution to the Ghanaian music industry. This year’s awards took place at the Accra International Conference yesterday, November 2, 2019.
