Happy FM, Ghana’s Number One Sports Station has partnered Donewell Insurance Company Limited for its annual blood donation exercise. The objective of the exercise is to help stock the blood banks of 37 Military Hospital and the National Blood Service.

The seventh edition of the CSR event took place on 19th of July, 2019 in the Ultra-Modern Office Complex of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) in Accra.

Commenting on the blood donation exercise Mr. Emmanuel Akrumah, Programmes Manager of Happy FM, said that the exercise involved the mobilization of Happy FM staff, Donewell Insurance Company Limited staff and the general public to voluntarily donate blood to replenish Blood Banks in 37 Military hospital and the National Blood Service.

Mr. Akrumah said last year more than two hundred (200) pints of blood were donated at Osu Donewell Insurance head office.

‘’This year the turn-out was also very good and we were able to collect one hundred and forty-four (144) pints at the blood donation at AMA centre. All the units of blood collected would be distributed to the National Blood Service and 37 Military Hospital. We also had free eye screening for donors.”Mr. Akrumah said.

He also commended Donewell Insurance, who also sponsored last year’s exercise, for the partnership and expressed appreciation to Accra City Hall-Listening Bureau, Dannex Pharmaceutical Company Limited, National Blood Service, 37 Military Hospital and the Advanced Eye Care Ghana for the various forms of support to the exercise.

Jennifer Bebli Marketing Manager of Donewell Insurance Company Ltd. said her organisation is proud to be part of the exercise.

‘’It is a privilege to be part of this exercise because in addition to saving lives, the exercise is a contribution to the achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 & 5 as the blood collected would be beneficial to women in labour who may need blood and thereby help in reducing child and maternal mortality’’ Jennifer Bebli said.

According to Jennifer Bebli, Donewell Insurance Company Limited is not only about making profit but also about giving back.

”We are a socially responsible organisation that support giving back to society and that’s why we partner like-minded organisations to play our part” she added.

Dr Mohammed Ameen the Chief Executive Officer of Advanced Eye Care Ghana in an address, said Advanced Eye Care Ghana is very proud to be associated with the initiative of saving lives through blood donation.

“The partnership with Happy formed part of the fulfilment of Advanced Eye Care Ghana’s mission to contribute to the development of Ghana by attending to the health needs of the citizens.” Dr Ameen said.

He, therefore, pledged the clinic’s commitment to continue actively supporting the health sector of Ghana through free eye care screening and outreaches across Ghana.

For his part, Mr. Jonas Moli Belko of the National Blood Bank commended all donors for volunteering to save human lives and encouraged all Ghanaians in good health to donate blood.

Captain Peter Kwarteng of the 37 Military Hospital encouraged people to walk into a hospital and donate voluntarily because it is often very stressful when emergencies occur and there is not enough blood for transfusion and it results in more fatalities.
