Ghana’s number one urban radio station through its relationship programme ‘Room Service’ will observe this year’s ‘World Aids Day’ with the ‘Know your status’ Campaign.
The know your status campaign is YFM’s way of reaching out to its numerous fan base and the general public to voluntarily test for their human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) status. Voluntary testing is one of the major ways to reduce the prevalence rate of the disease.
Speaking about the reasons for the ‘Know your Status’ campaign, Programmes Manager of YFM Eddy Blay said: ‘’ The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 3) which advocates good health and well-being for all is a laudable initiative and as a socially responsible organisation we want to help turn the tide on HIV with ‘Know your status campaign. I am inviting our numerous listeners to come to the Webster University, East Legon at 9am to be tested’’ he stated.
Eddy Blay, also encouraged people to know their status because it is important for their well-being.
“Testing for HIV might seem scary before you do it, but it’s pretty quick and easy to do. Plus, it has real benefits for you and those around you. Whatever the result, it will allow you to know your HIV status.
If you know you are HIV-negative, it can motivate you to be safe and keep up healthy behaviours. It’s still important to continue protecting yourself to remain negative at your next test.”
Knowing that you are HIV-positive allows you to start treatment, look after your health, and understand what is happening to your body. This can make it much easier for you to live a long healthy life’’ he added.
He also commended United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD 25), Faytex, and Webster University Ghana campus for their support
‘Room Service’ hosted by Agnes Ntow is an avenue for young adults to feel free and interact, as well as share their thoughts and concerns about themselves and their relationships. The show also serves as a platform to solve, address and promote healthy and good interactions/relationships among the young adults.
World AIDS Day, which falls on 1 December every year is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease.
